Yakov Kazhdan (1973). Lives in Moscow.
Yakov Kazhdan' practice blends different genres and techniques, taking inspiration primerely from cinema and theater. Kazhdan's poetics centers around his reflection on the social context, which is an investigation and a critique that targets the mechanisms of control and conditioning of individual will. In his narrative video he
comments to the history of cinematography and video production and organizes situations for documentation.
Work' exhibition tells a story about different types of labour using mainly materials brought from Moscow rediscovering position of an observing and acting body. It also concentrates on the fact that video as an artistic medium of nowadays plays the role of a painting in the exposition practice.
Yakov studied at The Institute of Contemporary Art in Moscow (2000). Before starting his artistic carrier he finished Moscow State Geological Academy. Yakov took part in number of Russian and international exhibitions such as: Modernikon (Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo,Turin, Italy), Lesson of History (Palais de Tokyo, Paris), special projects of 2d, 3d and 4th Moscow Biennale, personal
shows in Moscow Museum of Modern Art and Russian Natioanl Centre for Contemporary Art. As a film-maker he took part in Moscow International Film Festival (2009). His works are kept in private and state collections in Russia and abroad.
